An evening with Dr Bode Akintan

Last week, Dr Bode Akintan – brilliant child psychiatrist from Ontario Canada, was in Lagos and held an informal discussion about mental health at local restaurant- Ginger Tapas and Grill.’s Funmilade Taiwo spoke briefly about how the Nigerian culture discourages children from sharing their personal experiences without fear of reproach or a lecture and how this sometimes leads to victim shaming when it’s in the case of sexual abuse.

All in all, how are we doing better to raise more effective and mentally healthier children in a society that’s made it ok to experience and not talk about our traumas?

Follow us this month as we continue to have more insightful and thought provoking discussions.
